In Case You Didn't Hear Me the First Five Times..

Editors at Healthline have chosen Off and On as one of the top 15 Parkinson's Disease blogs of 2017. This makes the Sixth time, in a row this blog has been so honored. The editors had this to say about the blogs they chose: "Our editors carefully selected the most up-to-date, informative, and inspiring blogs that aim to uplift their readers through education and personal stories." Who am I to argue with that?

The number of good Parkinson's blogs has multiplied significantly since Healthline first recognized Off and On in 2012. So I am happy that the powers that be at Healthline still believe this effort  is worthy of the status this honor confers. Thanks to the editors, and most important thanks to you, the reader.

Off and On, The Alaska Parkinson's Rag, Named One of the Top Parkison's Blogs for 2015

Once again Healthline, a Web site devoted to increasing patient well-being through the dissemination of  information has chosen Off & On as one of the top  Parkinson's Disease Blogs for the year. And 2015 isn't even half the way over yet! It's the third time in a row that Healthline has bestowed this honor on this raffish little Alaska-generated blog.

Here is their statement about including Off & On: "The blog is an addictive mix of posts that showcase the author’s artistic talents, cutting-edge wit, and easy-to-digest data on the science and medicine surrounding Parkinson’s Disease."

There was no entry submitted, the Web Site apparently searches for blogs and judges which ones best meet their standards. Then they drop you a note about being selected. It's a nice surprise, and an honor.

There is a list along with short descriptions of each of the 14 blogs named to the list   here.

Blog Bling! Don your Coast Guard Approved Glotation Device Before Reading

I can't really tell if this is a big deal or not, but what the hell. Off and On, the Alaska Parkinson's Rag, has again been named one of the top 15 Parkinson's blogs. The San Francisco Website Healthline said in their announcement that they were diligent about making their choice, and avoided calling me quirky this time around. Click here to see their attaboy, and the other recognized blogs. I'm considering this a win until further notice. Also, I plan to be insufferable for the next few days, so if you run across Pam be extra nice to her.

Blog You Are Reading RIGHT NOW Named One of 15 Best Blogs on Parkinson's Disease for 2013

In accordance with our journalistic imperative to bring you the latest, most important news about PD and in no way driven by my vast ego and need for approval, I would like to graciously announce the following...(ahem)... Healthline editors recently published their final list of the top Parkinson's blogs on the web for 2013 and Off & On: The Alaska Parkinson’s Rag made the list. You can find the complete list at http://www.healthline.com/health-slideshow/best-parkinsons-blogs (in no particular order).

We don't know jack about Healthline, but they certainly must have researched thoroughly to have found this teeny tiny blog crying in the wilderness. Among others mentioned in the top 15 are the Parkinson's Disease Foundation's "Parkinson's Insights'', "Positively Parkinson's" by Bob Kuhn, Kate Kelsall's "Shake, Rattle and Roll" and "Foxfeed" from the MJ Fox Foundation.

In addition to citing the content of "Off and On" they also praised the author's "Quirky" creativity. When reached for comment, blog producer Peter Dunlap-Shohl replied "Quirky? The hell with that, I'm a full-blown, stage five, certified eccentric!" At which, he terminated the interview using a can of bear spray. Fortunately for us, we were interviewing him by telephone, and were unhurt. Dunlap-Shohl, however was heard coughing and cursing loudly and quirkily on the other end of the line. We offer him our congratulations and best wishes for a speedy recovery.

Blog Bling: "Off and On" Chosen as a "Top Parkinson's Disease Blog for 2012"

As I was wearily slashing my way through my email this morning, trashing the special offers, declining the entreaties from various do-gooder groups and ruthlessly ridding my in-basket of the waxy yellow buildup of content providers clamoring for my limited attention, I came across this: "Healthline editors recently published the final list of their favorite Parkinson's blogs and your blog made the list."  Three cheers and a tiger for me.

What do I know about Healthline? Only that they seem to have discriminating taste in blogs. Their list, which appears here is a good starting place for anyone looking to connect with dependable PD blogs.  Any list begs to be quibbled with, (don't get me started on Rolling Stone leaving Django Reinhardt and Andre Segovia off a list laughably titled "The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time) but who am I to argue with people who call me "quirky" and "soulful" and conferred on me this shiny Baubel?
