More Revamped Pages from the Parkinson's comic

Here is what was originally a one page story that has grown to two in the second draft of the PD book I am working on. This is the original page:

(Click to enlarge) And here are the new pages:

So what is going on here? Well, probably the first thing you noticed was it's in black and white. Why? It's a little faster for me to work this way. Since they have not bought the manuscript yet I am hoping to get a resolution over what they will do as soon as I can.  They can see from the black and whites whether this will satisfy their criteria in terms of content. Also, it's cheaper to publish in black and white rather than full color. If it is to be published in lavish full-color, I can add that later. In my experience adding color to black and white yields better results than converting color to black and white.

The other big thing I a trying to do is cut down on words and especially narration. Hey dummy, it's comics, a VISUAL medium. So let the visuals do the talking. That, along with a better organized approach is contributing to a more interesting and coherent work. At least I believe it is. Your thoughts are welcome.

Peter, I want to order the first copy of your book when it is finished! Seriously, I appreciate the uniqueness of the graphic novel/comic approach (I hope I used the right terminology) to the subject of Parkinson's. You are going to be a breakthrough author/artist. I knew you when... Dan

Peter, Love the book you are working on.

I am looking at DBS soon and could use some answers to questions I have. Where is a good place to go look?

Georgia, I want to give you a book to read that really helped my spouse and I decide and plan as I approached the surgery: "Life with a Battery-Operated Brain" by Jackie Hunt Christensen http://www.amazon.com/dp/1934938262/?tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=7914003368&hvpos=1t1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=7683051432020011738&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=e&hvdev=c&ref=pd_sl_9g5mp5u839_e. She is an experienced Parkinson's author who wrote this very informative and helpful book. It is the best source out there, in my humble opinion. I was not surprised by anything in facing DBS surgery and the aftermath. Best to you.

Dan, I found that book helpful, too. Peter also sent me to read the yahoo group called DBS surgery. Also, Georgia, if you go through Peter's Blog archive, you can read about his experience.

Peter,

The day I first read your previous draft of your graphic novel was the first day I had read anything by any one whose version of their experience with Parkinson's resembled mine in a realistic, honest, hopeful but true way. I hope you will keep feeling it is worth summoning the energy and focus to get this done. I think it will help people and that it is important.

Thanks all for the votes of faith and testimony on this project. I will and am trying to create a work that will live up to your expectations. I think I'm about halfway through, maybe another two months to finish.
